Network Rail Ashtead track renewal works, Aug-Oct 2024
I’m aware that Network Rail are planning some track renewal works around Ashtead station and level crossing which will involve road closures and access restrictions.
Residents have contacted me with concerns about access and issues for carers and/or emergency services.
I’ve been in touch with Network Rail, who have given me the detailed information below. I’ll keep in touch with them throughout the project, but if you have any queries or concerns please contact the Network Rail 24-hour helpline on 03457 11 41 41, quoting Ashtead Track Renewal (level crossing closure).
———-
The work will take place between Monday 5 August and Friday 4 October 2024.
We’ll be replacing rails, sleepers, and ballast adjacent to Ashtead station and through Ashtead level crossing with the main works being undertaken over the weekends of 9 -12 August and 16 to 19 August 2024.
During these two weekends it will be necessary to close the level crossing at certain times due to engineering trains and plant straddling the crossing and to keep our teams safe. We’ll provide vehicle access to residents across the crossing at certain time periods as outlined below. We will also have a residents assistance plan and an emergency services response plan in place throughout each weekend. The majority of these works will take place during the night-time however there are some occasions where the crossing will be closed during day-time hours.
Local residents impacted by the closure will have received a letter at the beginning of July and we will send a reminder next week to ensure all residents are aware.
9 August to 12 August - Ashtead Level Crossing - closure times
16 August to 19 August - Ashtead Level Crossing - closure times
Vehicle & Pedestrian Access
The level crossing closure times are detailed in the table above. During the partial road closure times a temporary bridge with a max speed limit of 5mph will be installed across the level crossing with single file traffic and traffic light control. The official pedestrian diversion route will be sign posted via the cattle-creep underpass. However, all other footbridges and the pedestrian foot crossings in the area will remain open throughout the works.
Car Parking & Residents Taxi Service
We have agreed the full use of Ashtead station car park for the works. Residents will have access to approximately 120 car parking spaces from 12:00 (Midday) Friday 9 August until 12:00 (Midday) Monday 12 August and from 12:00 (Midday) Friday 16 August to 12:00 (Midday) Monday 19 August.
There will be no charge for parking during these dates and times and the automatic number plate recognition system cameras will be switched off. There is no need to supply vehicle registrations to us or purchase a ticket from the pay machines during these time periods. In the unlikely event a fine is generated in error, residents can contact us immediately and we will have this rectified.
For residents north of the crossing who choose to leave their vehicles in Ashtead station car park there will be mini-buses available to take them to/from their property. Contact details for this service will be shared shortly.
Emergency Services Response
If there is an emergency, we ask that residents call 999 as normal. The 999-control room will contact our Network Rail site representative, we will pause works immediately, clear the crossing area and install a temporary bridge. Residents safety is our priority, so we ask that they please contact us if they have any questions or specific circumstance, we should be aware of.
