Epsom & Ewell MP backs community-led art installation to mark violence against women and girls
Helen Maguire, Liberal Democrat MP for Epsom & Ewell has written to Epsom & Ewell Borough Council and Mole Valley District Council to advocate for the creation of a community-led public art installation in the constituency.
Helen Maguire MP has long fought for justice for victims of violent and domestic abuse, and believes the installation will highlight the ongoing efforts to tackle violence against women and girls (VAWG).
She hopes the initiative, developed in collaboration with local residents, survivors, artists and community organisations, would serve as both a tribute to those affected and a powerful call to action for continued change.
Helen Maguire, Liberal Democrat MP for Epsom & Ewell said:
“Violence against women and girls remains a critical issue in our society and here in Epsom & Ewell, with both visible and hidden impacts that affect individuals and communities.
“A dedicated installation would provide a lasting reminder of our commitment to eradicating violence against women and girls, ensuring the message remains at the forefront of local and national conversations.
“Epsom & Ewell’s rich history makes it an ideal location for such a project. The borough holds a significant connection to the suffragette movement, particularly through Emily Wilding Davison’s legacy.
“By linking the struggle for women’s rights with contemporary issues of gender-based violence, we can acknowledge the progress made while also highlighting the urgent need for continued action and provide an educational space for residents and visitors to learn about these issues”.
