Green Belt? Cynical Tories at their worst?
Even in the fairy-tale world of Tory Politics, the flip flopping of Conservative governments and its Tory councillors on the issue of building on Green belt land must take the biscuit.
Firstly, the Tories force local councils like Epsom & Ewell and Mole Valley to establish housing targets knowing full well there’s not enough brownfield land to accommodate local demand.
Then they suggest that Council’s should build on the Green Belt if there’s no other way.
Then, once the intense heat is put on Tory MP’s, such as Chris Grayling by their rural supporters to stop this Green Belt building nonsense, then up pops Levelling Minister Michael Gove to slam on the breaks to stop it.
Helen says, “the most cynical aspect of this saga? Not, to apologise for the flip flopping, waste of our time and money the Tories have subject us too, but to blame opposition parties for following government orders and suggesting parts of the Green Belt where housing might have to be built.
