Tories cave in on Sewage Amendment
Epsom, Ewell, Ashtead, and Leatherhead came one step closer to better public health this week when the Government caved into a Liberal Democrat Parliamentary amendment on sewage discharges.
Liberal Democrat MPs changed the Infrastructure Bank Bill so that the Bank can only fund water companies if they produce plans for ending sewage discharges into rivers.
LibDem Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Epsom and Ewell Helen Maguire, said, “This is just one small victory for those millions of people, including those living in our area, who have voiced their outrage at water companies being allowed to get away with polluting rivers and coastlines. The fight continues to protect our local rivers – the Mole and the Hogsmill – and so we will keep holding the Government and water companies to account”
